Xbox not reading Discs

Last night i went to watcha a Dvd, i put the disc in and its says "open tray" instead of "play Dvd",.. i repeatively open and close the tray and get the same msg. I put a game in same thing! I revert back to dvd for one last glimmer of hope and it plays! I feel like my xbox may be going through some last phases of its life, but I dont think this is related to RROD. Anyone else have this happen? What are my options?

1-Cleaning your lens might fix this if it's just some dust on it. 2- If that doesn't fix it, then the DVD drive is onits way out. If it does crap out, you can still report it to MS as a RROD & get it fixed. They don't police this very well.

This happened to DA's last week. Fortunately she had the Best Buy warranty and swapped it for a slim.

What Cotter said. Report everything to Xbox as a RROD. They never check. They just fix it and send it back.

check open tray error on you tube, I fixed mine and my sons by tweaking the pots( laser power resistance)

DVD drive failures are somewhat common, not as common as RRoD or E78 but it's up there. I'd suggest getting a DVD cleaning kit and try and clean the laser lens. Over the years it could have accumulated enough dust and dirt on it that it isn't efficiently reading discs anymore. But if that doesn't work, you're probably on a downhill slide to xbox repair.

just an fyi you can't just buy a normal dvd clean kit. You need to buy one for the console. One of my friends had the same issue, bought a dvd cleaning kit from BB and it did not work. Check your local GS or game store for a more specific kit.

or you could always try compressed air..see if that will get the gunk off the lense.

Sledgehammer always does the trick. If it gets to the point it WON'T open at all, you can look it up but you can manually open it with a paperclip. Kinda tricky. Funny, but after the first CoD update mine started doing the same thing.
