E3_2010
Shared on Tue, 06/15/2010 - 09:47So yesterday I had the opportunity of attending a bunch of press briefings/events here at E3. The 2 that just didn't get it were Ubisoft and Activision. Now I love Ubisoft and Activision, but both took things in some strange directions. (More will come on this later. This is just a mini-recap)
Ubisoft didn't really show anything new at their event game-wise, except for a real-life laser tag game and some weird ass breathing game with it's own peripheral... Both unnecessary, and killed the flow of the event, which seemed all over the place anyway. Oh, and Shaun White was there.
The Activison event was an awesome concert, but a shitty press-event that maybe showed off 5 minutes of gameplay footage over a 3 hour period... Sure, it was cool to see Z-Trip, David Guetta, Deadmau5, Usher, Maynard James Keenan, Janes Addiction, Soundgarden, N.E.R.D., Rhea and finally blistering shit from Eminem. Great show. Shitty game coverage... Oh, and Tony Hawk was there.

============
Activision's event was that buddy that name drops. All flash and sizzle, with zero new game information. Only a handful of game montage's were even shown, and the information that was presented was not new, not even a remix.
Yes, I rocked out. Yes, Tommy Lee & Travis Barker were within high five distance. Unforgetable moments: Chris Cornell with a full orchestra wailing away Black Hole Sun (the long hair is BACK!), Maynard's incarnation of Queen, Rihanna singing with such passion I nearly forgot about her bashed up face, Jane's Addiction making me feel fifteen all over again. Yes, Treyarch peeps hooked me up with a primo line of sight for what will probably be known as the best concert of E3. But Activision doesn't sell concerts.
Counting chickens before they hatch. Putting on a pretty face. Whatever marketing genius came up with this plan, I hope it pans out. That kind of star power is not cheap. Epic concert, unprecedented I would say, but all that fire and ice doesn't sell your game. I've come to the conclusion that Activision wanted to just do something for us, for the people that support them, and a few hundred that don't. :p
