My opinion of Bad Company 2 Campaign

So, I finished the Bad Company 2 Campaign yesterday. I'm sure I'm behind everyone else but in case there are some of you that are not sure if they really want to buy this title or not I thought I'd try to give some spoiler-free info on my opinion of the Campaign.

Company Warfare 2

Right off the bat I noticed they changed their style for their campaign from Bad Company 1, I want to say I read somewhere they were making changes to make it more like Modern Warfare, even if I don't have that information correct I definitely saw resemblences between the styles of Modern Warfare and Bad Company 2. So I'm probably going to reference Modern Warfare 2 a lot due to that.

Story, or "Body"

I definitely felt the style was an improvement from Bad Company 1. I remember playing the demo for BC1 where you're at this crossroads with a few houses around it, and even in the beta I remember thinking a few times "Man, this is taking FOREVER". Once I bought BC1 there were times where I felt like I would walk 10 miles just to get to the action. In BC2 they did a far better job of keeping you in the action longer and you could tell they went for some of those dramatic moments that the Call of Duty's have been doing so well at. Overall story though I did feel like I understood the story better in Bad Company 2 than I have in the Modern Warfare's. Not that I'm completely lost in MW1/2 I just feel it's fragmented at times. But I was easily able to follow along with the story in BC2.

Cut Scenes / Characters

On one hand I enjoyed the cut scenes, I felt more connected with the characters in Bad Company than I did in Modern Warfare. But what I didn't enjoy about the cut scenes were fade outs in unusual spots. You'd be about to jump off a clip, the'd have a fade out, then they'd show you falling. Infinity Ward did a fantastic job of flow in this regard. I can't get too far into it without spoilers but I did feel a key part of the campaign was ruined with too frequent fade outs.

Graphics

One thing I thought Dice did very well was cloth material. The clothes looked very realistic. I think they did a decent job on human realism as well but there were still times that it felt computer generated. I can't recall a game that has gotten this down perfectly at this point anyway so I'm not going to hold that against them too much. The graphics seemed dated at times too, trees looking like they just threw flat graphics of leaves together, you could walk up to leaves and they would literally just look like a sheet of leaves. Sun rays also looked odd, almost more like tubes of light color falling from the sky. But there were a lot of things they did well too like detail to buildings and objects and area layouts. I think the Call of Duty's did a better job overall but I wasn't disappointed with the graphics of Bad Company 2 by any means.

Overall

Overall I definitely like the campaign better for BC2 than BC1, but I do think at least the Modern Warfare stories do a better job in regards to campaigns. If you liked the campaign in BC1 or you're looking for just a general good time without anything box office level you should check it out.
