Cats and guns....in that order.

Well, it has really become a rare event that I post a blog anymore. I guess I really don’t have much to talk about….I mean we did get a new cat….well, a new cat found us. So I guess that’s something to talk about….

My Parents told me they had a friendly stray that had been hanging around their house. So on one of our visits, we saw this little sweetheart…..
So, a few days later she is at our house, all vaccinated, but still quarantined until we get a blood test results for the normal “cat killer” illnesses…and that should be in our hands tonight or early tomorrow….
But here is what ticks me off, she is a very affectionate cat, she has yet to climb on any furniture(not that we would stop her from getting on the couch or bed) she hugs….yes if you pick her up, she wraps her paws around your neck and squeezes, and she begs when she wants something (just like a dog). But she has also been de-clawed…and since there are no houses nearby we think she was abandoned…what kind of monster would drop off a cat in the woods with no ability to defend herself or even get food and just drive away?
I guess there is a chance she happened to wander for a few weeks and find my parents house…but whoever lost her has made no attempt to find or reclaim her because she has been hanging around for 3 weeks prior to my parents telling us, and she was bone thin when they found her and started feeding her. We checked all the normal channels, humane society, vets, and Craig’s list and there’s nothing...
But theres something else that bugs me…to have a cat de-clawed is about $400…and if she was abandoned, odds are it was because she’s sick….which she has shown no signs, or the owners couldn’t afford her…and so they threw away a cat they already invested that much money in? I don’t buy it.

AND NOW FOR THE GUNS
I stopped by our local Walmart on Friday and was watching a line rapidly form in the sporting goods section….I was there looking for gun safes anyway(of which they had none), but this big ugly woman(and I mean U-G-L-Y even for Walmart standards.) walks up to me and elbows me in the side. And as loud as she could without screaming at me says “can you believe all deese honkies standing in line for ammo, cause’ they think Bama’ gonna try to keel dem or some shit like dat?”
While the term “Honkies” really offended me, I took it in stride, afterall, at this point the entire line was staring at us…. So I looked the woman (you know, thinking back, I am actually not sure if it really WAS a woman…not a guy in drag…just not….well… you know…eww...) and said in my best fake surprise tone, “oh, that’s the line for ammo? I thought every place was sold out!” and went to stand in line.  A few people in line laughed, but after talking to a few guys in line they said they were use to that kind of heckling... just think, if this country is in that much financial trouble, and ammo is taxed like everything else (if not more) and it is selling as fast as it can be manufactured....how is that a bad thing? isnt it good for the econemy? and if they aren't planning to use all that ammo for nefarious purposes, what harm can it do? (aside from the Hasmat issues of large quantities of explosives in one place...)
So, I waited in line and bought my max, 300rds of 9mm…and while I don’t own a 9mm, I do feel the money was well spent…first, it was at $.05 per round under market value(that's $60 for 3 boxes of 100), and second, we have been shopping for a 9mm anyway, I couldn’t ignore it.  Since we picked up our Concealed Carry Permits last week, we have been in the market for a good 9mm plinking gun….and since my father in law is a retired cop, he has been helpful in suggesting what to get….although he did seem quite offended when I mentioned that I liked one of the Rugers I looked at…and I’m really not happy with the Glock’s lack of a safety…so, to any shooters out there….any recommendations on a 9mm plinking (and possibly occasional concealed carry) automatic?

Check out a website called ar15.com. Lots of pistol info there. Not sure I would buy if I was looking for a 9 if not a Glock. Maybe a Sig? Kind of pricey.

I'd be good with Sig, or Walther...but I'd really love a Beretta 92FS, if only they were $200 cheaper....

Yay for the cat! And you two! I've been waiting to hear you got a new member to the household for awhile now...I am like those people who push you to have children, except I push to adopt animals! :) Congrats!
