Shared on Wed, 03/25/2009 - 11:15I’m realizing that the entire concept of a mouse does not match up to my working style. I often have numerous necessary stacks of paper around me all day as I work and there just seems to be no room for me to move without knocking something over….so, I’ve started working on an idea for an interface with my computer that would be much better for me to get my work done….the problem….I am getting carried away…
Here’s my thought process….I have to open a file with my mouse, key in the numbers, push my mouse aside and pick up my pen, put down my pen, use my number pad, pick up my pen again, then my mouse….all the while, having to find room to set stuff down in a place where I can get to it quickly without knocking stuff over….I really hate working in a cubicle….and when we reorganize, I will be moving into a much smaller cubicle….so the problems will be magnified…
So…I have my idea worked out to build a wireless mouse into a glove with a few built in sensors and such to determine when to turn on and off the mouse….ok, I actually have the schematic worked out on how to modify and build it….nice….
Now the problem…my next though is, “if I can do that…why not build in more sensors and expand the glove down my arm a little bit…add in a digital camera (why?.....why not?) it would be a testament to me abilities as a retro mod builder…but why stop there….I could build in an iPod dock on the arm with a headphone jack…but if I can do that, I can hook up a PDA jack as well, and put one of these in for the PDA just for show….but why stop there…why not a pair of gloves, using parts from one of these to put a scanner in it(since I do a ton of scanning anyway), and function keys so I can quickly navigate my programs….but once I get to that point I think I can build a phone hand set into one of them and so the only thing left on my desk would be my monitor and my keyboard….I’m not sure how I can completely get rid of my keyboard…but I could try to replace my monitor with this….
at this point I would have a bundle of wires half an inch in diameter coming from each glove and out IT department yelling at me for modifying my peripherals to the point that I’m the only one who knows how to use them….so, should I try to build my perfect mouse or would it simply be the first step down a long dark path that can only end when I accidentally spill my coffee and electrocute myself because of all the electronics I have strapped to myself…or go bankrupt tracking down all of these parts?
Who am I kidding, I’ll go home today, play some COD and forget I ever through this out…
