When did the business world become so damned stupid?

So, this weekend while grocery shopping, I see what appears to be an indigent man standing on the side of the road holding a sign that says "Circuit City Closing Final Clearance Up to 40% off."  Sweet ass sweet.  Sucks a consumer electronics store is going out of business, but up to 40% off is up to 40% off.  They actually had some things that I would have bought...  but why would I pay $30 - 25% (sorry too lazy to do the math) for a DVD I can get elsewhere for $9 new with no discount or $30 - 20% for a game (that's been out for over a year) I can buy elsewhere for $20 new.  Is there any wonder why these asshats went out business?  I've worked retail before, and when the price goes down permanently you bring your prices down or lose business.  It's not that hard of a concept.  As much as I'd like to, I can't blame the Democrats in Congress for this (unless they decide to bail Circuit City Corp at the last minute).  It is good to see the free market working for a change though.

I agree Mine, too often these closing don't offer any real savings until the last few days. KB Toys and FYE are doing the same thing. KB is now in fire sale mode and you can get a good deal on whatever is left ( and it ain't much ) but to discount MSRP is crazy...nobody and I mean NOBODY sells at MSRP so they are lying and cheating you...

What happend is when a business like CC closes their inventory is bought up by a third party for liquidation. Once in liquidation the third party marks all items up to MSRP and then starts giving these so called DEEP discounts. In reality all they did was jack up the price then add in a discount to make it appear to the retards that don't shop around that they are getting a huge deal.

Circuit City was that way long before they started to go out of business. You'd find 18 month old games that didn't rate well or targeted a niche audience, that were in the bargain bin anywhere else, at release price. The only good deal I ever got from them was Gears1 -$10 2 weeks after it was released.
