Waterborn
Shared on Fri, 01/23/2009 - 10:33Wow, it has been less than a week since I took on the responsibilities of Community Manager here at 2old2play and so much has happened that I wanted to give everyone an update. I will also post the conclusion to my article on Red 5 Studios and the future of MMOG’s later today. However, let’s catch up on what is going on in the world of 2old2play first.
Twitter Pimp Contest
UPDATE: I am not on the brink of 100 followers thanks to those of you participating in the 2old2play Twitter Pimp Contest. There is still plenty of time to join in on the action and win!
As many of you know, I post updates about 2old2play Community Events and Activities via my Twitter account (http://twitter.com/AOWWaterborn). I started the week with just under 50 followers. Seeing Twitter as an excellent medium by which I could get the word out about 2old2play and all the cool things we have going on, I decided to start up the Twitter Pimp Contest (see my previous blog for contest details and how you too can win a complete set of Series I Gears of War Comics). Within just two days, the number of people following me has jumped to 90 as of this morning and I full anticipate that it will continue to grow as more people learn about the contest.
For those who are participating in the 2oldplay Twitter Pimp Contest, here is an update on who is currently leading the pack (as of 11:52 pm EST on 1-23) with the most referrals:
SFX_LADYJ – 10 followers
Seeson – 8 followers (closing the gap quickly)
AOW Science – 4 followers
SFX_PALLIDIAN – 3 followers
Assassin10K – 1 follower
Remember, the only way you can get credit for a referral is if that person posts something like “Sent to you by <username>”. I have acquired several new followers who have not made such posts.
Spawned by the idea of the Twitter Pimp Contest, I am working with some folks to create a Twitter Referral Service call TweetPimp. Check it out at http://twitter.com/TweetPimp
2old2play LAN and PWNathon
I have been working with the 2old2play LAN Planning Team and the PWNathon to bring these two events together this year. We are still working on the details, but will be announcing details on the First Annual 2old2play PWNathon Celebrity Gaming Tournament for charity very soon. This event will build on the excellent work that hubristes and his team did on the PWNathon last year and hopefully will include some big names from the gaming industry. So stay tuned for more details. 2old2play
Community Forums and New Visitor Landing Page
I am also working with the Management here at 2old2play to create a special forum for all posts concerning Community Events. This forum similar to the current Announcements forum and would include posts about upcoming events such as the LAN, tournaments, contests and whatever would fall under the umbrella of Community Programming. The idea is to bring everyone in the 2old2play Community together in one place to get information to the site at large about what your are planning. Often, members have expressed the concern that they either heard about an event too late or not at all. This forum will be the clearinghouse to make sure you can find out what is going on easily. In addition to the Community Forums, I we are developing a Community Landing Page to introduce new visitors to 2old2play.com. This page would be posted in all of my communications outside of 2oldplay and would be the first introduction to the site for those who find out about this community through my Tweets and other online announcments to the greater gaming community at large. Rest assured that you, as members of 2old2play, will not have to view this landing page everytime to log onto 2old2play. You would go directly to the normal homepage as always.
Introcuing Waterborn's SWAG Bag - Coming Soon
In the near future I will be running a weekly SWAG Giveaway via this blog. The means for determining who will get the SWAG will vary from week to week. One week may entail a simple drawing from those who post a reply to that week’s blog. Perhaps members will be asked to check out one of our partner web sites and answer some questions about what they read. Of course, we may see a return of the Twitter Pimp Contest as well to help get the word out about 2old2play.com and bring more followers to the site. The format will constantly change, so be sure to check back here at my blog on a regular basis to learn how you can win some cool stuff.
Open Invitation for Input for the 2oldplay Community
Finally, one of my primary goals as the new Community Manager here at 2old2play is to provide a means for you, the members and lifeblood of 2old2play, to let me know what kinds of events and programming you would like to see. Let me know your ideas, plans and goals. With over 15,000 active members on the 2old2play roster right now, we obviously will not be able to do everything that our members may want to, but by forwarding me your ideas, we will have a better idea of in what direction you would like to see the Community side of the site lead. REMEMBER – This is primarily for Community Related Topics, for site design, technical issues and general “Why is did doodi do this?” questions, please refer to the appropriate forums already in place.
I look forward to working with everyone at 2old2play to build new and exciting programming for this community. This is going to be fun!
Ps. Sorry about the erratic fonts in this post. I can't seem to figure out text formatting
