It was a pretty neat event, and we got to see the older kid's science projects and buy some new books for my daughter and visit her teacher.
Then we went and checked out the science fair. Not really a fair, but more like the book fair, where they sell "science" stuff to raise money for the school. So, they had things to grow "crystals" and shells, shark's teeth, alligator heads, puffer fish, etc...
On the side, they had for sale, Lion Gecko lizards, (which where a pretty good side, but $50), scorpions... (these were black with a pretty nasty looking stinger ($25)), and Tarantulas ($25). All these came with cages and were in the cages, except for the tarantulas. They were seperate of their cages, in small "soup" dishes that were covered (for lack of a better word).
While my daughter was checking out all the doo-dads that were basically just money sponges, I checked out the creatures, cause if allowed, I would have 2-3 of them. (But I'm not). As I was checking out the tarantulas, I pulled one of the dishes up to my face to get a close look at one. Fascinating creatures really... however, I noticed something strange which I couldn't quite figure out right away... Then I noticed it. The tarantula was missing a leg. 2, 4, 6, 7... and 2 "feelers" at the front... WTF? Picked up another one... 2, 4, 6, 7.... and 2 "feelers" at the front. Another one! Picked up the 3rd and final tarantula... 2, 4, 6, 8 +2. Well, that one has all his legs.
I pointed out the discrepancies to the cashier and she told me I was the first one to notice that. Figures. I'm weird like that.
My daughter's school was selling damaged goods.
Oh well. I doubt anyone bought a tarantula anyways.
LOL
