Shared on Thu, 02/14/2008 - 13:43...up? Holy shit.
Just got my year-end review from my Boss, and to say the least, I was floored.
I honestly didn't think I'd get anything better then what I received last year, which equated to "Performs" or "Meets" (expectations). Those types of reviews typically result in lower merit increases and bonus percentages, as well as slim changes of being promoted.
Instead, my boss threw down the gauntlet to me. Or, better yet, he hung a fat juicy carrot out in front of me, but, gave me control of the stick.
I received a "Leading" review. That's the best you can get. Each Boss is allowed to give maybe (1) "Leading" review for his entire group. He gave me this for a couple of reasons.
1. He feels that I'm working on a level above my current pay grade.
2. A "Leading" review makes it easier to promote someone.
So, he wants to get me promoted, which is a bonus, cause I haven't seen a promotion in a couple of years. Going through 18 lay-offs and a bankruptcy will do that.
So, from this meeting, I'm getting some good things... a bigger merit increase, a bigger bonus, and a possible promotion.
Which is where the caveats come into play.
More responsibility and work. One of the reasons why I was given this huge project I'm working on. He wants me to be the person who knows how to do these circuits inside and out. Our basic job hasn't changed in the past 5 years or so, and then last year, things started to change. The orders became more complex and took longer to install. And they continue to get more complex.
So I get to be the guy everyone comes to to solve issues with orders. As such, I've got a lot to learn still and work through.
Take the bad with the good.
I think I'll go celebrate this weekend and then worry about the work after that.
