More dental fun

It wasn't that long ago (Nov 1) that I had the distinct  experience of having a wisdom tooth extracted.  Oh, the fun and joy it was in the preceding days with a dry socket and having the socket packed with a very strong clove tasting substance.  Well, now I get ANOTHER distinct dental experience, next week.

ROOT CANAL.  Yes, One of the teeth I had a cavity filled last year has decided to never heal and the root has decided to DIE.  So.  I am scheduled for a root canal next Friday.  Woo.  Hoo.  I can hardly contain my excitement.  It wouldn't be so bad if this particular facility could knock me out for the procedure but nitrous oxide is the best they can do with a shot of Valium and an ipod.  Of course, they would like me to take the other wisdom tooth out also, but I said no.  The oral surgeon is getting that pleasure later this year.  Once again I will subject myself to the "fun."

You know, this would never have happened if I hadn't gone to the dentist.  Ack.  Well, I suppose I need to make the best of it so I will take my Valium the night before, play some COD4 with the clan, get the root canal in the morning, sleep that afternoon and see what happens next.

Oh, well...

Keep on Go!

Sis, I'd recommend that you just get both knocked out at the same time. That way you will only have to experience the discomfort once, and not twice.

I recently had a root canal. I think I commented about it on your wisdom tooth blog comments. It was back in November. It really doesn't hurt. I had a female dentist do the work. I think that was very helpful. Men are much more brutal. Be careful on taking Valium, I don't know how well it mixes with the anesthesia. I all, I had to do four visits for one tooth. The last visit is when they do the insert. The first three they just drill and kill the nerves.

Thanks, eks. I'm hoping I don't have the same reaction as I did with my wisdom tooth.

Valium AND nitrous oxide?! I think you have a lower dental pain tolerance than I have. I need Novocaine for a routine cleaning, and then I bitch if the dentist doesn't hit the nerve(s) dead-on. I've had a root canal while on nitrous & novocaine and felt nothing. Just remember vague things about the dentist calling my call every no and then (prolly to make sure I was still alive) and getting tired of the noise from the tiny wire brush when he was cleaning out the roots.
