One of my favorite quotes from marriage counseling situations is as follows. "I just don't love my wife anymore" counselor says "Well, go home and love her."
My wife and I are so different sometimes it is a wonder we get along at all. For example.
She had the second highest GPA in her high school class.
I went to summer school every year, but one. Then night school along with day school just to graduate on time.
She graduated magna cum laude from College
I begged for professors to allow me to turn in late work so I could graduate at all.
She listens to loves songs and girl rock.
I listen to alternative rock and blues.
She comes from a family where they talk to each other.
I come from a family where I wonder where they are.
She will grew up in the artic cold (ohio)
I grew up in south Florida and north Georgia
She likes to take long walks
I like to play video games all night
There are so many things about our very person that are different. It amazes me that we can live with each other. Before anyone says opposites attract, I will tell you I disagree. Opposites collide. Opposites tend to hurt each other in my experience because they don't understand each other. It is not our differences that make us love each other though we do enjoy laughing at how weird we think each other are. It is the fact that when I (or her) wake up in the morning and look at the other we make a decision. I look at her and tell myself despite how my emotions or wants feel I am going to love her today. I am going to do the things she wants me to do. I am going to sacrifice my own wants and I am going to love her.
This is our perspective on marriage. This is our perspective on love (isn't that fairy tale like). Sometimes we screw up, fall off track, and totally piss each other off, but we talk argue and get ourselves back to that concept. So in answer to Wally's question about the pic, she made a decision to be my wife. Now she is stuck with me forever and we are going to make the most of it. It may not be a Hollywood or Cinderella love story, but I wouldn't want anything different.
