New Line plans to go forward with their concept of a video game movie. The movie, King of Kong will be about gamers battling for... high score?
Apparently, the documentary will focus on the game, Donkey Kong, and rivals attempts to beat the high score. Picturehouse won the rights to distribute the documentary in theaters this summer.
The documentary is said to make its way to theaters on August 17th in a "limited release." We're not exactly sure how limited it will be, but we're guessing limited enough to count as a "straight to video" movie title.
The documentary will focus on competitive gaming in the 1980s era involving coin-op arcade machines. We've got a few coin-op fans, would you go and see this film (if its "limited" in your neck of the woods of course)?
