It may not be the next generation of FPS king pins, but Section 8 does have a lot to offer lovers of the genre.
Section 8 Prejudice is the sequel to Timegate’s Section 8 released in September 2009. Again in Section 8 Prejudice we are following the story of Alex Corde and the 8th armored infantry as they seek to end the war with the Arm of Orion. For an arcade title, it offers a 5-hour campaign mode, which was surprisingly fresh, due to the new weapons and enemies being introduced.
Online Multiplayer
Section 8 Prejudice supports 2 online game modes, “Swarm” and “Conquest”. Swarm Mode is a 4player tower defense type game. Defend your position against wave after wave of enemy soldiers. Each player can purchase deployable turrets or other armor to assist you in the fight.
Section 8 Prejudice also offers a massive 32 player online muli-player experience and it is very well done. The games are played on dedicated servers and you can choose servers by region. The game mode “Conquest” pits 2 teams in a battle to control 4 separate locations, much like a King of the Hill game. First team to 1000 points wins. Adding additional points to your score, the game deploys side objectives. The side objectives might be escorting a VIP or a convoy that just landed or defending a certain area of the map for an amount of time. These mini quests are given to both teams and either team has a chance to gain points by completing the objective or stopping it.
If all of that was not enough the game has a vast unlock system of over 60 customizable weapon/equipment/upgrade variants, full bot support, robust stats portal and clan management tools, dedicated servers for all three platforms, and aggressive post-release DLC plans.
Section 8 Prejudice is set at a price point of $15 (1200 Microsoft Points) and is being released on XBLA, PSN store and PC. It is digital distribution only. For $15 you can’t go wrong and really what more could you ask for? It offers everything a full priced game would for a quarter of the price.
