Really Old Gamers Feel Young Again!

You're playing video games now - what about when you're 104? A study that shows very old gamers play games too!

The report performed by Evercare, a care provider, says one out of seven people 99 years or older are playing some type of video game.

The study doesn't say which games they're playing, maybe Halo maybe Hearts, but it does say that older gamers are playing games. These older gamers, in most situations, were born 60 years before the first commercial video game pong was invented.

"The annual Evercare 100 @ 100 Survey, which polls 100 year olds about their practices and habits, found that the 'centenarians' follow “current trends like reality television, video games and iPods,” as well as concern themselves with topics such as good eating and current events."

This survey, interviewed 70 females and 30 males all ranging between 99 to 104 years old. The goal of the survey was to "better understand" the ever growing population of older people. Along with these results the survey also found:

  • 6% had used the Internet
  • 4% have listened to music on an iPod

Although the numbers aren't staggering, it does show an interest in many of today's high-tech activities. For a population that had already retired before the NES was even dreamed about, this isn't a bad trend. Pong arrived commercially in 1972 and these people were born on or before 1907. Keep that in perspective!

One thing is for sure, if we play our cards right we too will be able to hit the ripe age of 104. Will you still be playing video games?
