They've pulled in three million users across their three release titles: Guild Wars, GuildWars: Factions and GuildWars: Nightfall.
These three million users enjoy a gaming environment free from service fees because NCSoft, publisher of GuildWars, puts out module releases (i.e. Factions and Nightfall) every six months rather then forcing gamers to pay monthly.
GuildWars isn't a true MMO in all aspects due to its "instanced gaming" with a party from two to eight gamers. However, the adoption rate is high with customers continuing to buy into each module as they're released.
New features include:
- Party Search: No more "grinding for a group." GuildWars has a search panel for finding gamers that want to party up for adventures.
- Reconnect: When a party member was dropped due to connectivity issues they were not allowed to re-join with their friends in mid-game instance. Now they can.
Along with some winter decorations, themed quests and costumes the GuildWars team has kept up with the times. Although World of Warcraft gamers have been enjoying themed holidays for years, the Guild Wars team have adopted this idea... for no monthly charge.
Many MMO fans push GuildWars off as a game "trying to be an MMO" when in fact it falls into its own category of online gaming. Can 3-million people really be wrong?
