Duke Nukem 3D: XBLA Material?

The 3D Realms staff thinks Duke Nukem 3D would be a great port to Xbox Live Arcade, but would Microsoft agree?

We have already seen DOOM hit XBLA and now little lights click on in gamers heads... "What about "

The forum posters on 3drealms.com are asking that very question "What about Duke Nukem 3D for XBLA?" The answers are grim.

Their member, mola_ram, writes:

"Bring it! I need it. Doom gave me a taste of how awesome it is to play these classics again, and it won't be right without Duke. Make it happen, 3D Realms!"

Here's a petition, btw. Not of my creation, but, sign up of you're interested:

However, the 3D Realms staff explained a bit of the process, saying that even if the idea is good and gamers want it, Microsoft doesn't accept everything (even what some consider good ideas). They also have a very long review process and much content is rejected.

Joe Siegler, a staff member said:

"Petitions do nothing. Waste of time.

It's already been discussed here. Whether it happens or not I can't say. It's ultimately up to Microsoft as to whether they want it or not."

He also went on to say:

"You'd be surprised what they've turned down. Don't just assume MS will want it just because you like it, and it's popular. Hate to sound defeatiest, but it's not as easy as "send it to Micorosoft and get it on there". It's a rather complicated procedure, and MS is fairly picky about what goes on there.

Besides, if you can think of it, they already have - I'd bet on it. Plus as I said above, we've already talked about it ourselves. I talked about this yesterday with George, he's all up for the idea, but we don't have the time to do the port ourselves, plus there's the issue of whetther Microsoft would really want it. Don't just assume they would, there's a big submissions procedure to go through. Plus their release schedule is booked solid for quite awhile now, even if we delivered it to them today, I would imagine it wouldnt' come out for awhile anyway."

You cannot hate the man for bringing you the truth. Although 3D Realms might be too busy to port the game themselves, if Microsoft already brought DOOM into the system you know they've at least thought about Duke Nukem 3D. Many of those retro FPS games were huge hits and any game company can tell you the list of FPS block busters of the early 1990's. If it exists, Microsoft probably has mulled it over in some darkly lit meeting room.
