So? Well Atari CEO Bruno Bonnell says there WILL be Wii and 360 games, why no PS3?
Bruno Bonnell confirms that there will be zero PS3 games at launch or for the holiday season. Atari isn't the most well off development studio right now and given recent events dealing with their financial troubles (i.e. cancelling support for NeverWinter Nights) it may not be that suprising to refuse to take on PS3 work.
Bonnell stated that Atari is currently lacking information about the PS3 at this stage of the game. With its rough release date and higher price point Atari cannot afford to take the risk right now.
Why Wii and 360? The Wii is a cheaper platform, easier to get into, lower cost games, and probably not too difficult to develop for. The 360 is a well established console with a track record for games and sales so its not difficult to predict outcomes and analyze sales. But the PS3 is the big unknown and a risky manuever for a game developer cutting back on spending.
Right now we're all just hoping Atari can publish a nice stable release of NeverWinter Nights II and not rush Obsidian (the developer) to the market before its ready. This is always a concern when a publisher is in need of money and wants to start taking in revenue for the games.
This begs the question "how many other developers are thinking the same?" - Not all studio's are rolling in the dough and although "with risk comes reward" ... so does bankruptcy.
