GenCon SoCal Joins the E3 Graveyard

In an official press release from the GenCon website, leaders of the event have decided to close down the Anaheim show. “Putting an end to our Gen Con So Cal show was in no way an easy decision to make,” said Peter D. Adkison, CEO of Gen Con. “But at the end of the day, it became apparent to us that the show was not likely to grow and expand without immense effort and expense. With our other shows doing so well, it made sense to focus our energy and talent on making those the best shows they can be.”

Unlike E3, GenCon plans many other events all over the world including France, UK, Australia, and its main event in Indy. The main reason for the departure in Anaheim was so that, "staff can focus on the Midwestern/East Coast Flagship event GenCon Indy." After nearly 40 years in existence, the Indy event saw more then 26,000 unique attendees at it's last showing.

In an open letter to all the GenCon fans, Peter D. explains the last 4 years of the GenCon SoCal road and tries to give a "behind-the-scenes scoop" on why it was ultimately dropped. In the end he site how attendance and cost just didn't leave them much of a choice. We're sure E3 dying wasn't a good sign either.
