One of the biggest publishers in the business is looking to make 2012 one of its biggest years ever. Will they have any surprises in store? Let's find out!
Good Feeling
It got lively up in here, quick! "Good Feeling" by Flo Rida is playing with some lovely ladies dancing along. Flo Rida himself then comes out rapping to his song. It will be included in the just revealed Just Dance 4!
Far Cry 3 stars off awkwardly. Naked lady, boobies exposed. You're going after Vaas from Far Cry 2. Very cool underwater ledge takedown followed up by releasing a Tiger who mauls a dude graphically. Another game where you use a bow, cool! Crazy amount of stabbing and blood, looking forward to it! Releases this September.
Next up, this looks like it might be a new IP? Game looks like it takes place in the Middle East, Arab characters...Oh, it's Sam Fisher! New Splinter Cell is revealed. New targetting system is pretty cool. Title is revealed, Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Sam doesn't sound like Michael Ironisde, possibly a new voice actor. Kinda disappointing if true.
Wii U Titles
New Rayman game for the Wii U, Rayman Legends. Looks adorable like every other Rayman game. Up to 5 players! And at one point it turned into a rhythm action platformer! Impressed.
Trailer for another Wii U exclusive title, ZombiU. Looks cool, scenes featuring dead bodies, a man comitting suicide, people fighting off zombies. There's a sense of hoplessness. A stirring rendition of "God Saves The Queen" plays throughout. I am impressed.
Next up we have Wolverine and Venom fighting in an alley. WHAT? Cut to Spider-Man and Storm facing off against Magneto!? We then see a fade out to Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and others standing on a roof top watching the fight. Avengers: Battle For Earth confirmed for Wii U. Looked really cool. Curious to see how it plays.
The bread and butter
Assassin's Creed 3 trailer plays. New protagonist, Connor is single handely winning the American Revoltuion. Killing red coat after red coat in a huge battlefield. Trailer looks stunning. Gameplay is then shown with Connor swinging through a snowy wooded area. Connor can also kill animals and not just Red coats. Combat looks to be the best in the series so far. I just pre-ordered 5 copies.
A new game Shootermania is shown off with actual people brought out of stage to demo it. It's a motion controlled game and it looks awful. Beta registration for it is open now. I have a feeling a lot of people aren't clamoring to get in it.
Ubisoft has one last announcement. A trailer is playing that looks like some sort of promo for Anonymous than any game. It's a pretty long trailer so far and very confusing. Whatever this is it's 2 years in the making. Trailer then cuts to a man walking in the street, game looks stunning and reminds me heavily of GTA. Open world environment, THE GRAPHICS! Holy toledo! The character then runs near a bar entrance and disables all phone communcations with his device. Hacking seems to be a priority in this game. After walking into the establishment, a cutscene triggers and soon after the character leaves, but not before beating the hell out of a bouncer. He steps outside, it's night now and it's pouring, this game looks gorgeous. He runs up the street and disables a set of traffic lights in order to take out his target, a mini pile-up occurs as a result. As he approaches the target's vehicle a shootout begins, the game goes into slow-mo as the man takes out enemies. He then takes cover behind some cars, while taking out goons one by one. After successfully doing so, a cutscene plays, he takes out the target and then the trailer transitions to reveal possible co-op. Title: Watch Dogs. New IP. I. WANT. IT. NOW. It just stole the show. No release date or platforms yet. I cannot wait!
Parting Thoughts
Aside from an annoying co-host, Ubisoft killed it. Assassin's Creed 3 looked fantastic. The Wii U stuff looked good and the new IP, Watch Dogs stunned everyone. Easily the best conference of day one and can't wait to get my hands on these titles.
