Six new...er ... old titles are coming to Xbox Live:
- Centipede/Millipede
- Battlezone
- Asteroids
- Missile Command
- Tempest
- Warlords
Why spend the money on games you purchased 25+ years ago? Online play, leaderboards, perhaps some vision camera updates and of course, graphical facelifts.
In the future, with the new XNA project underway, indie game developers can create new arcade games which are not simple throw backs from the 70's and 80's. Hopefully, sometime in 2007 we'll start to see some fresh new ideas hit XBLA.
For us older gamers, we'll probably find entertainment in these new releases and a few flashbacks from the 70's - but will it hold our attention long? Many years ago games like Missle Command would have held our attention for hours. Let's be honest, we had a limited number of great games and an unlimited amount of time after school. Now, we're grown up and ready for something new.
The major factor: We are no longer kids spending our allowance for video games. We're adults, with a bigger wallet. But we're still kids at heart - so we will download and buy many of these games anyway.
What's next on XBLA? Perhaps an oscilloscope tennis game? :-)
