Time for the internal pep-talk...

I will find out in an hour an a half what is up with my job. I mean, I already know - it's done next summer. But, this will make it official. Real. I've run through the emotions in my brain probably 100 times and I feel like I've made peace with it. I have a great network with some very well connected people. I work in healthcare IT - a field positioned to grow. I've got a good education and blah, blah, blah. But sometimes when you think you're mentally prepared for something, it becomes real, and you realize you weren't.

So here's my pep-talk to not get angry, to not cry (at least not in the presence of my co-workers), to keep positive and consider this an opportunity - because shit is about to be real.

The sooner you start looking for a new gig the better. Even healthcare which you would think would be a lifer type job have been hit with these shitty times. \r \r Not hat you're 'old' either but companies are favoring hiring cheap green out of school labor right now over seasoned vets for higher dollars too, that's the problem i'm running into a lot right now. They can hire some kid for 1/2 to 1/3rd what my asking price is.\r \r Anyway good luck, sounds like you already know what's about to hit so just get out there looking. Maybe you'll be able to find something before your time there is done.

Hey Tara,\r \r You'll land on your feet. You seem to be very smart, and driven.\r \r Healthcare is a great field to be in. Try sending your resume' to some places here in Florida. Old people grow on trees down here. Seriously.

I had to spend about seven months in an acquired brokerage firm in order to preserve a pretty sweet severance package and it was a mixed blessing. Working in a place that you were absolutely certain had no long-term future that you used to like sucked. \r \r Knowing that as long as I kept my pants on I could get away with just about anything else was liberating.\r \r Keep your pants on girl. This too shall pass.

Good luck to you! Having spent 40 years in IT and then being let go two years before I had planned on retiring, I know your pain. (My job went to India) Network to the fullest and unless they have a REAL good reason (mucho dollars) for you to stick it out 'til the bitter end, jump as soon as you can. If for no other reason than it might give them some problems.

Chin up, Tara! Even tho you are prepared, it will hit you like a ton of bricks. We are here for you. And, like all the others, I believe you will be ok and find something else very quickly.
