I just finished writing my last paper before spring break officially starts.  The missus' and my five year anniversary is next month, but as I'm without academic obligation next week we're celebrating early.  If I go to bed immediately after I click Submit, I'll get four hours of sleep before it's time to get up and dash to the airport for the flight to Jamaica.

Today I'm pimping my favorite magazine and the most excellent job they did explaining the single most damning aspect of the collapse of the financial system. It's not a fun read, and it gets just a little bit technical at times. However it is the best explanation I've seen to date explaining securitized mortgages, credit default swaps, and the other voodoo techniques which for some reason seemed like a good idea to the people in charge of the banks:

If you're genuinely interested in why we're so fucked and where your 401k went, it's worth the read.

In the Kwazy Household the vodka is stored in the most logical of places:  the freezer.  Last night the wife asked me to make her a martini.  After having fninished doing so, I left the 1/3 full 1.75L bottle of Kettle One on the kitchen counter instead of putting it away as I figured I'd make myself one in a few minutes.

A few minutes turned out to be an hour later.  Turns out that stuff about the ideal gas law from high school physics actually has real-world applications.

I just got a letter from Capital One today. I've had one of their credit cards for somewhere between 6-10 years. Always been in good standing, never missed a payment, 95% of the time I pay the balance off at the end of the month. Here's what it said:
