And I'm home...I've been traveling for work enjoying free booze and periodically checking up on the apparent "forge grenade" I dropped before I took off. The booze fortunately lessened the blow on some of the ridiculous backlash. Portland has some amazing Pinot, and Utah has some major nom Hefferveisen - thank you west coast!



 


You won't believe me. But I didn't see this coming. Sure, I figured a few people wouldn't be able to look past the bold opener and would be a little weepy. But I naively thought the majority of readers would actually digest my satirical treat and use it as a launchpad to nerd-out on all the possibilities of a new generation of forge. You know, think about it. Discuss it. I'm keenly aware of my relative inexperience with the Halo franchise vis-a-vis the average member of the site (thanks for the reminder though). So I spent several hours writing, re-writing, getting feedback, and researching - all while trusting the community to fill in the blanks.
 


 


Well, you can't win em' all. I read the audiance wrong despite feeling like I had just the right balance of postive insight versus snark to foster vibrant discussion. Knuck-dragging FTL. And I thought the "Your Mom" editorial would garner more heat being the more controversial of the two!



 


I have a feeling I could have ghost-written the article and hit my intended mark (at least closer), but that is bullshit on so many levels that I won't bother entertaining the thought any longer. I also won't give in to the egregious temptation of rebutting the few actual arguments that were made in response to the piece. And I'm putting a gag order on regaling you with all the sick burns I conjured up for the haters. It's hard.



 


But, I am standing behind what I wrote. To those that enjoyed it, my pleasure. For those that didn't... Go play Reach or something.

I'm not creative so never played with Forge at all, but I know what I like. Have yet to see a Forge creation that brought something to the table. But then again I think the endless armor customization is useless as well. I know any comment I make will be called sucking up so I'll stop there

I think it takes time for people to start reading the sites articles on a continual basis...and get used to all the writers different styles. And I think people took it as a personal attack for some odd reason. \r \r I'll admit even when I started reading it I was like \"wtf do you mean my forge maps suck...who are you to say that?\" But after reading it and remembering how you usually write your articles, the fire went out and I had a good chuckle.\r \r Let it roll of your back and keep at it.\r \r Don't let the bastards grind you down.

1 out of 1000 forge maps are actually good maps. creativity aside, playable maps are hard to come by. people can make a small box with a couple ramps in it and people play on it because its simple and effective. \r \r i dont think you have to be a pro halo player to know a good map when you see one. and competitive playing is much different then casual.

They don't call it the Church of Haloz for nothing.\r \r BTW I loved your article. ButI couldn't comment because my wife says I'm only allowed to wadge one holy war at a time and I'm not finished with the Johova's Whitnesses yet.

I liked your article Tara, as somebody who used to make maps for HL and UT I've seen some terrible stuff and made some awful mistakes mostly due to lack of player feedback and unclear concepts.\r \r And don't sweat the hatemail, you told them their baby was ugly.

Do you think women get bad comments because they are posting in male majority environment?\r \r I think the women on this site have taken some awful hard hits for articles they wrote. I'm do not think all of it is deserved.\r \r In my opinion, 2o2p women try hard to fit in and they get busted for it. If a man uses foul language, it's normal. For what it's worth, I think the article was great. I'm tired of folks taking umbrage at honest opinions well supported by facts. It seems that they think it was aimed at them. If the facts fit them, them perhaps they should admit that their maps really do suck. Some of the maps I saw, I wouldn't play again on a bet.\r \r Keep writing and making people think!

What...some one messing with the New Girl at AOW ....WTF. Do we need to sic Meat on them?...that'll shut em up!\r Seriously I respect those that have the time and fortitude to work thru a forge map and I'm sure they will feel like its their baby. But if it sucks...well...it sucks!
