Democracy's Downside

I was out on CNN.com earlier today and saw this quote: "Analysts say black women never have held such power in determining the Democratic nominee for president. Black women are expected to make up more than a third of all Democratic voters in South Carolina's primary in five days. These women face a unique dilemma: Should they vote their race, or should they vote their gender?"

Is that really how we should chose our candidate? By his/her race or gender? I thought it was supposed to be based on whether he/she shares your ideology. Do white male democrats have the challenge of deciding whether to vote for Obama because he's a guy or for Clinton because she's white? FFS people, we're talking about who is going to run our country. I hope we can give this a little more thought than what's the color of their skin and do they pee standing up or sitting down.

Sad but true... I'll bet if you stood outside polling locations and asked people who they voted for and WHY, at least half of them won't give you a valid answer that isn't race, gender, or rehashed sound bites from that candidate's political ads.

When did they bring democracy back? Do we get to vote on bringing that back in 2008? :)

If a white male was asked that question and said he was going to vote for, Lets say, Joe Blow because Joe Blow is a white male, That person would be branded as a sexist and a racist. \r \r Sounds like a double standard to me, but what do I know, I am just a white male voter.\r

This is a great time to consider becoming an ex-pat to a Caribbean country.

My family just had a convo about this. Weird how the media in america tries to shape elections. It's like someone is paying them to talk about this stuff.
