Diet can determine baby's sex?

From the AP:

Fifty-six percent of the women in the group with the highest energy intake had sons, compared to 45 percent in the least-well fed cohort.

Beside racking up a higher calorie count, the group who produced more males were also more likely to have eaten a wider range of nutrients, including potassium, calcium and vitamins C, E and B12.

We'd like you in a study...

Great news!  We've identified the bacteria that causes halitosis!

From AP:

Solobacterium moorei is the organism largely responsible for chronic bad breath, or halitosis, biologists reported Saturday at the annual meeting of the American Association for Dental Research.

Neurotic Gamers and Hospitals

Neurotic Gamers @ Kotaku

This follows on the heels of "do you finish every game you get" from last weekend.  The comments are telling, in my opinion.

I don't have a 360 and like to think that I wouldn't obsess over getting achievements, but now they're coming to the PS3, so I guess I'll see how much I freak out about points and such.

Cosmetic Castration Banned in Thailand

From Reuters:

Thailand's health chiefs barred hospitals and clinics on Wednesday from castrating would-be "ladyboys" amid growing concern about the operation being seen as a cheap and quick alternative to a full sex-change.

In a letter to 16,000 private health units, the Public Health Ministry said doctors performing the operation outside formal sex-change therapy -- which requires rigorous physical and mental evaluation of the patient -- faced up to six months in jail.

At least they were working on their team building skills?

Alarming tale of a group of 3rd graders planning to assault their teacher:

A group of children ages 8 to 10 apparently were mad at their teacher because she had scolded one of them for standing on a chair, authorities say.

That led the third-graders, as many as nine boys and girls, to plot an attack on the teacher at Center Elementary School in south Georgia.

Police Chief Tony Tanner said the students apparently planned to knock the teacher unconscious with a glass paperweight, bind her with handcuffs and duct tape and then stab her with a broken steak knife.
