Confused priorities

I'm going to be a little late to work today because I need to phone my congressman and find out why we can afford to hand out billions to banks, insurance companies, automakers and others that have proven a knack for mismanaging funds, but we are going to deny funds to the one group of people that we should actually be taking care of? People who stepped up and answered the call are being told "Sorry, there's no money for you" while corporate executives are cashing multi-million dollar checks backed with my money? If this pisses you off, please make sure someone that can affect a change in this policy knows about your displeasure. Here are some links to help get you started:

It's a fucked up deal. I'm one of those people that they're trying to hand a shit sandwich and not terribly happy about it. This info apparently has been out for awhile (I got info on it last week), but the new transparent government has kept it not so visible amongst all of its transparency. I will be attempting to utilize my Chain of Command to redress this grievance. I would like to see IAVA's response to this.

Sent to the White House... will also be contacting my Congressmen and Reps: To Whom it May Concern (Specifically the President.); Concerning President Obama's plan to to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs for the treatment of troops injured in service. As a Veteran myself, I find this idea to be outrageous. It has got to be the worst idea ever. If anything, the Government needs to provide MORE money for Veteran's medical issues. To expect the private sector to cover the medical expenses resulting from injuries sustained while serving OUR COUNTRY is beyond ridiculous. Why would I VOLUNTEER to serve if I knew that my Country wouldn't take care of my injuries from any fighting I was involved in. Honestly, are you looking to drive people from Volunteering? President Obama will find stiff opposition to this plan, and I will be one of the voices in that opposition. This plan will fail, and it will fail miserably. The Government needs to take care of its Soldiers and Veterans, past and present. To do anything less is dishonorable, and lessens the sacrifice that Veterans have given past and present. I'm ashamed of our Government to even consider this plan. I will be a voice of opposition to this plan.

This plan seems odd to me, as it does to the veterans' advocacy groups like IAVA- The presiden'ts policy record on veterans and military issues so far has been totally in line with the advocacy groups, until now. This is one of the only things I've totally disagreed with him on as well. Whats the secretary of the VA thinking advising him of this? Also- the article on yahoo is an editorial. Its not 100% factual. It is however, written as legit news feed. The source is American Legion, not AP.

Is this a precursor to Nationalized HealthCare?

Nice move Zikan! Although I never served (kinda wish I had) I thoroughly support those who do. It always pisses me off when anyone says something bad about our military. They are a VOULENTEER army and I appreciate what they do and they deserve all our respect and help we can give them, no matter what you think of the current leadership of our country. There are obviously presidents and leaders of our country that I agree with more than others but, no matter what our military deserves our respect and support any way how!

Great info here. Sure Obama is going to try to block the bonuses but there are other priorities on the table and congress should be alerted to them.

Great post Bud. Ihope obama does block the bonus pay outs, but he really needs to do a 180 in regards to the veterans paying for there own medical treatment. What a slap in the face for our Vets.
