Shared on Wed, 09/09/2009 - 06:51So I know everyone has been talking about the Beatles Rock Band which is officially released today. Several of my friends from the band Oxytocin worked on this project, so I want to give them props. 'Leb, Kedaar, M-Cue & everyone at Harmonix who worked on Beatles Rock Band - CONGRATULATIONS and best wishes on the release. Obviously the world is clammering for this game and you guys deserve a much needed break. Cigarettes and High Life for everyone!
However, my attention will be focused on two movie premiers that will be coming out in Boston today.
9

Tim Burton's newest animated project, 9, comes out today. Burton serves as the producer of this film and you can definitely see his influence throughout. The movie deals with a post-apocalyptic world in which humans have passed on and are survived by machines, including 9 humanoid creations of one scientist who instilled all of Man's knowledge and emotions into them prior to The End. The visuals look amazing and the cast includes some of my favorites - Crispin Glover, Jeniffer Connely, Martin Landau, Elijah Wood, John C. Riley and Christopher Plummer. The soundtrack sound pretty kick-ass as well. I am going to check out a noon matinee of this one and will report back via my Twitter feed at twitter.com/AOWWaterborn
Whip It

So, thanks to BostonTweet (twitter.com/BostonTweet) I was able to score some tickets to the Boston premier of Drew Barrymore's new flick "Whip It." This movie is a complete departure from 9 in that it is live action and deals with Bliss Cavnedar (Ellen Paige of Juno and Knocked up fame), a girl who is driven onto the beauty pagent circuit by her uptight parents (played by Marcia Gay Harden and Daniel Stern - brilliant casting if you ask me). In an act of rebellion Bliss decides to join up with a local women's rolly derby league. Once again the cast in this one looks pretty damn good, with one of my favorite actresses of all time, Juliette Lewis playing a roller derby queen named Dinah Might - Frick'n kick ass! The music fits perfectly and reminds me alot of the soundtrack to the Lords of Dogtown.
As an added bonus, Drew Barrymore will actually be at this premier, covering a Q&A after the show. She will also be appearing at the Arts for Humanity Epicenter in South Boston earlier today with actual members of local roller derby clubs for a photo and autograph session. I plan to attend this event and then head on over the the premier. Should be a fund day!
