Achievement Unlocked: 10 Mile Runner

I've got a lot of Xbox achievements, but not nearly enough real life achievements. On Saturday I ran 10 miles for the first time. Took me about an hour and a half. I feel really good about that.

About 3 miles in, it suddenly dawned on me that I had over an hour of running left to do. Oh well!

Around mile 5, my legs started complaining a bit. I told them to shut the hell up, and kept going.

At mile 6, I had to decrease my speed a little, to 6 mph. Then the Bee Gees came on the radio, and I got some energy back!

Mile 7 - Earth, Wind, and Fire hit the radio with "Let's Groove Tonight", which helped out a lot. I turned my speed back up to 6.5, and there it stayed the rest of the workout.

Mile 8 - The brothers Gibb helped my spirits as the Bee Gees resumed. After that, I listened to Owl City.

Mile 10 - Oh yeah, baby!

I don't know what the heck is going on with me, why I feel so driven to do this. I remember 10 years ago when my wife told me about her Japanese coworker named Simon, who ran 10 miles every weekend. I scoffed at the idea. "Why the heck would anyone ever want to do THAT?" I thought that was crazy.

And yet, here I am. Doing the same. How weird is that?

I can't explain it. I just love that feeling of dead tired that I get after a good run. I love the feeling of accomplishment.

My legs were really sore yesterday, but I like that. I feel better today. I'm still scheduled for the half-marathon in October. But the thing is, I feel like In ready for it NOW. Am I going to be able to keep this up for life? Once there are no more personal records to be beaten?

If you are reading this, then I'm curious. What kind of exercise gets you that same feeling? And what keeps you going? And not quitting?

Good for you. Like yourself, I feel good after exercise but I rarely do it. Of course I am fat and really need to get motivated. Hell, I couldn't walk 10 miles right now.

I hate running. There I said it.  I occasionally go for a run and I literally count the minutes until it's over and I can stop.

I love soccer though and could play for hours. Running is like soccer or any other sport with all the interesting bits taken out.

H2Daddy - Thanks. I appreciate it. I used to avoid exercise like the plague. It's all a matter of finding something you actually like to do, I think.

CiaranORian - Haha, I can completely relate to that. There are many times when I'm just counting the minutes and they seem to drag on and on. It's a love / hate relationship for me, but I'm at the point where the good days outweigh the bad.
