The Truth Is Out There

It's silly to go on pretending that under the skin we are all brothers. The truth is more likely that under the skin we are all cannibals, assassins, traitors, liars, hypocrites, poltroons. The hypocrite's crime is that he bears false witness against himself.  What makes it so plausible to assume that hypocrisy is the vice of vices is that integrity can indeed exist under the cover of all other vices except this one.  Only crime and the criminal, it is true, confront us with the perplexity of radical evil; but only the hypocrite is really rotten to the core.

Judge not les ye be judged. But is the hypocrite any different than the judge? Sure the hypocrite tells you not to eat your dessert before your meal and then goes and wolfs down a cake. But then you have the judge who makes the ruling on what is deemed good and wholesome and pure, but doesn't like to be judged by anyone. The judge sits on his bench waving his gavel, slamming it down with great force, passing judgement on all those less worthy in his eyes. But the judge does not talk his talk or walk his walk. He does what he wants, when he wants to whom he wants. So doesn't that also make him the hypocrite? Quite the conondrum.
