Xbox Live Offer

Good morning all! First, let me say that I am excited about the Microsoft announcement of the family plan coming out this fall. This November, families can get Xbox live, up to four accounts, for $99 a year. This will save people a lot of money considering I pay $100 a year for my daughter and I. The only concern that I have is, can we play on Xbox live at the same time? As it is right now we both have accounts, but we have to play separately and if we did want to play together, I would have to buy another Xbox 360 and TV. Which would be awesome if I only had the money. So, with this family plan coming out here soon, I wonder if families will be able to play Call of Duty 4, MW2, Halo 3 (my daughter's fav), and other multiplayer games at the same time and on the same machine? I know Microsoft is pushing family gaming, which is a smart move, with the release of Kinect this fall, but I just hope it opens up for more options other than the Kinect device.

That being said, I found on Buy.com that they are offering Xbox live, twelve month gold subscription, for $34.44 with free shipping. They put a limit of three cards per customer. So, until the family plan roles out, this may be a cheap solution for the rest of the family. Unless you plan on doing like me and just wait until November.

Thanks for the info Timbo, it will make good B-Day presents for my boys. If the Gold Membership is accociated to there Game Tag it should follow them to what ever System they go to.

If there is only two people that are gaming online over Live, you're overpaying even if you buy the family plan. You can on a fairly regular basis find 12 month Live sub cards for 35 bucks and in a good deal you can find them for 29.99 . EIther way if you only need two accounts, the family plan is a waste of money for you. As for your other questions, you can both log into your xbox as your accounts. You only need a free silver account to play system link or local multiplayer. You need a paid gold membership anytime you play over the internet though. Right now you can both play over the internet together on a single account, the only restriction is that your daughter would be signed in as a 'guest' of your account, she would not be gaming under her own profile, she'd be gaming under your profile as a guest. If you both have gold accounts, you can both play on the same console over live IF the game allows it. THis is a per game feature, nothing to do with individual or family plan membership levels. The game needs to be designed to allow split screen locally with Xbox Live online support. IF the game developer doesn't put that in the game, you can't do it, doesn't matter what plan you're on.

Damn, well, that sucks! I know the guest feature with Halo, but she wants to play MW2 with me, so I was hoping she would be able to with the family plan, but since it's more of a per game basis, I guess I'm screwed. Thanks, Tank!

Read the back of the game box, there ar ea bunch of little rectangles that summarize the features of the game. If it says Players 1 which COD does, you can't split screen. You want to look for Players 2 (or 3 or 4) and look for the feature split screen listed. If it says Players 2 and Split Screen, you're good to go.
