As mentioned before in this post, I'm not to thrilled about Peter Molyneux's idea of releasing this game in chapters, however, I am still pretty excited for the next chapter and adventure in the series.
Fable III is set sixty years after Fable II and your character, or hero, had two additional children after the single player campaign. One brother turns into a narcissistic tyrant hell bent on bringing Albion to it's knees. Your job, playing as the other brother, is to start an uprising and eventually overthrowing your power hungry sibling. What's interesting about this adventure, however, is that along your quest, while recruiting citizens to help you start a revolution, you encounter different characters that will ask you for requests and in hopes that you will follow through with your word once you are King. The decision is then made by you as to whether or not you will keep your agreement. As Mr. Molyneux explains,
The way it works is that on your way to being King, people have come up to you and asked you to promise that you're going to do things when you're on the throne. So for example there is a character called Reaver, who you might remember from Fable II and who is played by Stephen Fry. He's back – because he's immortal. And he asks that when you're King he wants a whole area [of Albion] to be factories. Are you going to keep that promise? Or are you going to break that promise? Are you going to rob people blind? Are you going to use that money to decorate your castle? There are a lot of those decisions.
This is the part of the game that I am looking forward to the most. In Fable II, I just played the game killing bad guys, buying up property, and marry anything that showed interest. Yeah, needless to say I have many children running around Albion, but thankfully I own the whole town, so it's easy to pay my child support. In Fable III, the fact that you can make promises and then once you reach your throne of power you can decide whether or not to keep them is a different approach in role playing games, it makes it more personal.
It's still unknown if Lionhead Studios still plan on releasing this game in chapters, but if they do I may have to reconsider my position on this game and dust off my sword to rid Albion of my evil brother's lust for power. View the trailer below.
