Warranty???

So early this morning, say 1 AM, I shut my Xbox down after a few exciting hours of Halo 3.  As I turn my eyes away from the Xbox, just in my peripheral vision I see a glint of flashing red.  I turned and there it was, staring in my face like twisted smile,  the Red Ring of Death.  Strangely enough I've seen it 2 other times before, but not for long.  Both times were during heavy storms in which our power went out for a brief second or two.  The red lights flashed after the power sparked back on, but disappeared once I turned the Box off and back on.  This time it wouldn't disappear.  I checked it again when I woke up this morning; still there.  Then I check it about a half hour later and it's gone.  Everything starts up normally.

Now during that half hour I checked the "Registration and Repair" page on Xbox.com.  It claims that my warranty expired sometime in May, one year after I got my Xbox.  This doesn't jive with that 3-year warranty extension that Microsoft extended.  So I'm getting worried that from some technicality I've been screwed out of the warranty extension and when the RROD returns (and it will return.  it never forgets) I'll be screwed even more when I have to buy a new Xbox.  Anyone else notice this on their registration?  Did this just not update after the extension?  Or am I really screwed?

i'm pretty sure the rrod is different. if you get THAT, then you should be covered. the basic warranty probably is up, but ms extended the rrod part of it, methinks. call 1-800-4my-xbox. see what they say. just tell them you got the rrod.

Call them, they should take care of the extension to the warranty. I asked, because mine didn't RR, the video card shit itself. So, when I called I said "My xbox 360 is three years old, but I'm not getting red rings, does it still fall under your new extension" to which she said "no, if it's not red ringing, it's not covered under the extension to the warranty." So, unfortunately for me, I had to pay. But you should be okay. If they tell you otherwise, ask to speak with a manager. Some service techs are either out of the loop or out to screw you (in general), but the Xbox 360 folks are very aware about their hardware issues. Shit, even the UPS guy knew what was in our coffin without us telling him.

Yes they will cover it. @ Codemonkey, I have had two 360's die on me this summer neither one had the 3 red rings but I told them they did. Both of them had the DVD drives go out. I sent them in and they repaired both of them no questions asked. I don't like lying but I sure wasn't going to pay them $200 because they used crappy hardware.
