Dead Space 2

Dean and I picked up a couple copies of Dead Space 2 yesterday. The original was a great game. And even though I'm sorta "meh" on sequels, it's something new to play and I'm glad I picked it up.

I played through 4 chapters last night and I'm looking forward to playing more. One of the things the devs did well is not fuck with you for hours and hours to get your powers back. You pretty much get stasis and kinesis right from the get-go. It's a slight wait to pick up a suit and some weapons (and there's plenty to purchase with sweet, sweet microsoft points). But it's not bad.

The levels are all new, but have that same eerie feel to them. Puzzles are just challenging enough to be worthwhile and not annoying. There seems to be a good mix of old/new creatures to dismember. I don't feel like there are quite as many "make you jump" moments....but I'm okay with that, lol. The only new feature I don't love is that you often have to stomp on bodies to loot them. I'd rather the spoils turn up as soon as I make the kill - cuz I'm lazy. It's a minor nuisance.

Some people hated the original because the control scheme is slightly different than most shooters. I know I hated it initially. But I got used to them half way through the first game and going back to this sequel feels perfectly natural. There are even some new control features like advanced locator to find save points and node benches - pretty cool.

I definitely recommend this game if anyone is itching to play something new(ish). And I'd even recommend it if we weren't in a video game drought.

Happy Dismembering!
