Yay, unemployment time

TANK

So, I got the axe today... i'ts not like i didn't see it coming.  With parts of our business in the shitter (although not specifically my office) and budget time coming, hatchet time was always in the back of my mind.  Then when there was a sudden end of they day staff meeting that usually ment that they woudl lay people off by the time the meeting happened and then lay it on thick about hard times and other corporate bullshit.  And my boss suddenly came to my office and he hates my office, so that was another alarm bell going off.  So i wasn't shocked when he walked into my office with the envelope and closed the door, he didn't need to say anything.

The severence is at least generous, 2.5 months plus i had a month worth of vacation time stored up.  So that's a decent sized check to get over the next few months.  It's not like i'm going to get employment anytime soon with the economy the way it is.

The plus side as well as the negative is that at least we bought our house.  The downside now is obviously, first mortgage payment is due Dec 1st and having to pay that out every month is going to strain everything.  Plus i have a 401k loan that went into the downpayment.  So we'll just have to see how it shakes out financially.  There's talk of unempoyment benifits being extended because of the shitty economy.  Last time i was laid off in 2002 when it wasn't even this bad i was out of work for 9 months.    But at least i'll have time to play all those sweet games that came out this fall that i wasn't going to have time to play :)

Fuck corporate america.  Gone are the days when you can get a good job and work there until you retire.  There's no such thing as loyalty to the employee and as an employee you shouldn't be loyal to your employeer either, fuck them all.

dude, getting laid off sucks... at least you got a cushion to give you a couple months breathing room. You are right though, there is no incentive to be loyal to a company. At all times you have to look out for yourself first and the company second because that's exactly how the company is looking at you. Good luck with the job search.,,
