Traveling for half of this week, won't be blogging till THursday.  I took a look around today though and not a ton of news out there.  I think everyone's recuperating from E3 and busy writing their impressions and what not.

I picked up the final piece to my new HD home theater system, an Onkyo TX SR606 receiver.   The 'old' one the 605 won many awards and got much praise for all the stuff it does for the price: MSRP $499.  I'm a Sony A/V guy though but the cheapest amp they have that does all the stuff the Onky does is $1199 !!!  Ihad read they were bringing out a competitor to the Onky in July so i wanted and i finally saw it on a product roadmap, msrp on it is 799.  So it's still way more expensive.  Then Onkyo replaced the 605 with the 606 based on user feedback and industry feedback, they've improved it's features and kept the pric ethe same. The biggest thing for me is it now has 4 HDMI 1.3a ports instead of only two.  IT also comes with a tuning Mic to set all 7.1 channels properly to where you're going to sit, sothat's also very cool.

So anyway i picked up the ONky for $399 on sale this week and ordered it out of state so no taxes and got free shipping.  So i managed to save $200 off MSRP and 8.75% in taxes, can't go wrong with that.  Then i ordered some coolor coordinated HDMI cables from monoprice.com for about 5 bucks each, got a green one for the xbox, blue one for bluray and a white one for whatever, it's just spare.  Plus i have a grey one already.

Good choice. I would have gone with an Onkyo myself.

Yeah, that 606 just got rave reviews from Home Theater Mag too. I had a 503 for about 2 1/2 years and it was f'n great. I wish I had kept it for a 2nd room. The 606 does have some heat issues, so make sure it is well ventilated. And some people have problems with lip sync, which I think it inherent in all HDMI receivers. Even my high end Pioneer Elite gives me issues now and again. Check out the avsforums owners thread for the 606 if you have not already... http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1026622

Hey Tank - can you edit in a link to where you picked it up from? I ask because I'm in dire need of an upgrade myself to something with HDMI ins/outs - and a good deal is always nice to find. :)

Nevermind the request - a little PriceGrabber and voila, found it at Crutchfield.com. And wouldn't you just know it ... won me a NIB Wii from the company picnic on Saturday. That'll do nicely to fund the vast majority of the upgrade. :D

You'll love the 606, I'm sure, but you should have gone with the 605. I just picked up a 605 myself. I have no need for more than the 2 HDMI ports and the 605 does come with a mic like the 606. I won't mention how much I paid so as not to cause you to pitch a hissy fit.

Balek : I bought from amazon.com through one of their partner websites . Aimzb: Ya i know the 605 is on deep discount now because it's been discontinued. The two HDMI ports on it was what stopped me from buying the 605, it's just not enough.
