We all know politicians are for sale. We are learning that there is no real press, only partisan mouth pieces that skew a story to their beliefs. Now even science is a whore in a land of pimps and johns. In the current issue of Newsweek there is an article about industry financed scientific studies. There are research firms that are specifically geared to make ANY data appear negative.

For instance if you are doing a study about a particular air born carcinogen. Well this particle is getting in the lungs of the general labor force of company x and causing cancer. What you do is take into account also the high level executives and management, whom have little if any contact with the contaminant thus lowing the over all occurrence of cancer in the study.

There are even firms that boast there ability to keep products on the shelf longer when they are know not to be safe. One company proudly proclaimed "we were able to keep the drug itexpensiveandkillsyouazine on the market for an additional 10 months after FDA first inquired about it's safety." They also used the example of aspirin use in children with chicken pocks. If I child with chicken pocks take aspirin there is an additional risk the child will develope Reye's syndrome.

Reye's syndrome is an emergency illness chiefly affecting children and teenagers. It almost always follows a viral illness such as a cold, the flu, or chicken pox. Reye's syndrome may affect all the organs of the body, but most seriously affects the brain and liver. Rapid development of severe neurological symptoms, including lethargy, confusion, seizures, and coma, make Reye's syndrome a life-threatening emergency. The aspirin makers were able to keep aspirin on the shelves for and additional year or two through this type of "science" while scores of children developed Reye's and 100 died. Aspirin now carries a warning label.

It's time to no longer accept the acceptable.
