I dunno if that picture was taken very early or very late in the day, but the photos & videos prior to and during the inauguration showed MANY more people than this picture.

@MikeTheKnife, I was thinking the exact same thing, but I didn't feel like sounding like a dumb-ass by demonstrating my lack of knowledge about DC geography. Are we right?

Just Google mapped it. The pic as presented here is turned 90 degrees so West is up. The more famous reflection pool is to the west of the Washington Monument (upwards of it in the pic) towards the Lincoln Monument. There is another reflecting pool immediately west (above) the Capital lawn appearing green in the pic. That would explain why no one is standing there :)
