I'll be honest - I really enjoy a good hockey game, but I find the above clip to be totally moronic.  What a ridiculous display of idiocy.

How come when hockey players fight, it's a good game but when basketball players fight, they're thugs?

That's pretty rediculous.  I don't know why they allow fighting to continue in Hockey.  Probably because no one would watch it otherwise.

hahahahahaha...i guess sometimes a guy(team) just has to do what a guy's gotta do.cool

i've been coaching amature hockey for 20 years, and i've never had a player ejected for fighting. i run a very tight ship.

as a player, i've been in at least 100 fights.

most people lobby the league to bring the fighting to an end. the league can't do it. it's the players and coaches that implement it, and they are the only ones who can stop it.

if you made fighting a permanant ban from the league, it would just give more players an opportunity to play in that league. it would reduce the fighting, but it certainly wouldn't stop it. there are lots of players who would take the position as a fighter knowing they would have a very limited career, and then be on their way. it would be their 15 minutes of fame.

I find it weird that some people are opposed to fighting in hockey.  I mean even if they don't understand it's role - which is fine I get that - it's still strange.  Fighting can exist on it's own (boxing / ufc / martial arts) but if it's a part of another sport it becomes "dumb"....just such a foregin concept to me.  Fighting will never be taken out of hockey - it's an integral part of the game both for fans and for the teams.  It's a mechanic that allows players to somewhat police themselves.  It also is used to spark a team when they are down....and yeah sometimes it's just in there for the hell of it lol but it's all good :)  And hockey fans do watch hockey that has no fighting in it.  I would say outside of the Stanley Cup finals in Canada that the World Juniors Hockey Tournament that starts on boxing day is probably some of the most watched hockey in Canada every year and fighting isn't permitted in that and rarely happens.

I think that a lot people have never taken the time to understand the game because they didn't grow up with it.  It's easy to toss  "stupid" and "ridiculous" when someone is looking for an excuse to dislike a sport.  Takes a lot of balls to go in there and drop the gloves, and teammates and fans appreciate it.
