Fuck you, and fuck the cities that use them as revenue generating streams.

Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit.

The fuck you say. 

In no fucking way did I run a red light.

I know exactly the time and date you said I did.  I know where I was going.  I was going to get my hair cut at lunch on a Monday.   I didn't run the fucking light.  The light turned yellow when I entered the intersection.

Bullshit.

The fucking thing isn't even a traffic or criminal code violation.  It's a City Ordinance violation.  WTF?

Not even sure if it's worth fighting, but then again, that's what cities are banking on... apathy.

Maybe I'll just walk into the payment center and pay with $75 worth of mixed change.

Fuckers.

What I don't get is, can they prove it was you behind the wheel and not just your car going through the intersection?

Doesn't matter who was driving: "As you can see from the photo to the right, a vehicle registered in your name and described below has been photographed running a red light." My car, my problem.

That is why it is a civil violation. It doesn't pass constitutional muster for a criminal charge. Of course, they don't care since all they want is the money.

I don't know if it's the same way in your town, but here in AZ if you get the ticket in the mail and don't respond they can't do anything. I know this for a fact, my carpool buddy has gotten 3 with no consequence, plus it was written up in the paper a while ago that they have to physically serve the ticket to you. Maybe look into it.

@darth - a man with little hair. @Soup - Don't pay it. Don't respond. They can't do a damn thing, at least for now. The whole red light camera thing is all jammed up in several different court cases right now.

There was just a report on the radio this morning here in St. Louis that only 1 in 5 people have actually paid the red light tickets. There's is almost nothing that the cops can do about it.

Agreed with JeepChick. It's a real hot button issue in Ohio right now. State and Fed law says that they cannot issue a citation without an officer being present as a witness. It's basically a civil fine. If you don't pay, it DOESN"T go on your driving record, your insurance company won't see it and there is no criminal repercussions. The ONLY thing they can do is turn it over to a collections company that MIGHT someday if you don't pay...put it on your credit report. I got two and havent paid either.

I've had at least 10 going back as far as 10 years ago. Never paid any of them. They can't put it to collections, or put it on your credit. It's not that kind of bill.

The cities are banking on apathy, yes, and plain ol' American naivete - that if one receives such a ticket in the mail they never think to question the legality or do a little Googling, and pay it out of fear of going to jail. I am amazed at the number of people who do not understand the difference between a crime and a traffic violation.
