Creepy Crawly

Found one of these special ladies in my garage yesterday...

This is the 2nd one I've found in less then a year. It's kinda of concerning to me when I have a 6 year old daughter and a 9 week old puppy who both play around in the garage occasionally.  It was also located by the gas cans that I store under my work bench for gas for my mower and trimmer.  In fact, I had just grabbed both of those cans this past weekend to use and had noticed that both had some webs all over them.  Could have been a close thing maybe.

It's well known that Texas has it's fair share of Black Widows and Brown Recluse spiders. But, finding them in my garage irks me cause the next step is finding one in my house.

Anyways, this one didn't survive for more then 5 minutes after I saw her, as I nailed her with a stream of wasp spray (works very well on spiders!) and proceeded to keep her doused in the liquid until she stopped trying to crawl away.

Next step. Bug bomb the garage.

Minnesota may have shit-tons of snow. But I'm glad that we don't have any nasty creepy-crawly bastards, slinky things, fire ants, or whatever other dangerous teeny tiny animals the warmer climates have.

I got bit by a Brown Recluse when I was kid. I still have a quarter size patch on my leg where no hair grows and the skin is nasty and it freaks me out if anybody touches it. It's just dead meat under the skin. In Florida we have these wood spiders that are fast (they run to capture food) and rather large (palm size), one fell on my face in the dead of night. That was fun.

Yeah Biznass, those hunting spiders are scary! Up here, most spiders/bugs run when you come near, but those bastards will run at you! Anyway Soups, they make these sheets of paper, like fly paper, that have spider pheromones on them. Spiders come over, get stuck, and die. That might be a better solution with your daughter and puppy, than coating everything in the garage with poison. SC

My father was bit by a Brown Recluse once, and we live in New Hampshire! It was in the ceiling tiles of the place he was working, probably came in off a shipping crate.

I don't know what I would do. I would be torn between putting it in my wife's shoe and calling a professional exterminator after stomping on it. Seriously though, I would call an exterminator if it were me. I am paranoid about my daughters safety.

I found one on my deck a few years back. We contracted with Orkin then and I hardly see any bugs anymore. :D
