New Games

My girlfriend was at a craft fair this past weekend, selling some of her hand-made jewellery, just round the corner from her friends' house. Afterwards, we were invited over for dinner and a surprise impromptu birthday party for me!

Typically, my presents comprised of Game gift vouchers, which I spent yesterday on some PC games. FInally, I have my hands on Mass Effect, Fallout 3, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I can see my WoW-time being rather curtailed for the next few weeks :D

I spent a few hours last night playing Mass Effect - 3 or 4 hours playtime, only about 1 hour actual combat, the rest exploration and dialogue - I nearly wet myself with excitement!

I think my guildies in WoW are going to be missing me :P

KOTOR is very addictive. You think you can get to a point where you will be able to stop playing but a new quest opens up and the chance to keep going is a great lure. Once you finally get your lightsaber, that just about does it and you’re hooked.

Oh yes.  I lost many a latenight hour to KotOR.  Mmm, that is an excellent game and it will suck you in like a blackhole (but in a good way).  Are you playing it as a light or dark jedi?  It is worth playing at least twice so you can experience each of the extremes and play with the different force powers.  If you get stuck on anything, just send me a PM and I can give you some tips, but I wont send anything unsolicited because I dont want to spoil anything for you.  Im going back to some old games myself right now, and they are all very good.  "Freedom Fighters", "The Simpsons: Hit & Run", and "Far Cry".  You can pick all of these up for a pitance and they are awesome.  Ill let everyone else beta test the 360 while I have fun with $10.  w00t!!

Ah Yes. Both games are great. I can remember several marathon sessions for both of them. I enjoyed them both very much but for very different reasons.  I enjoyed KOTOR a little more as well. It has a great balance of accessibility, discovery, and character development that is hard to find. It is the only game besides Halo:CE/H2 that I have completed multiple times (4). I played combinations of Light/Dark, different classes and genders all giving a different experience. Though I spent the time to thoroughly investigate everything the first time around, I still found something small on the first level during my third pass. It always urges you to press forward, and compels you to continue the great story that really drives the game. Unfortunately, I felt that KOTOR-II was too dialog heavy, and had a rushed ending. I also did not enjoy the character building of Jade Empire as much.  Morrowind can leave you reeling initially however as you venture out, you discover all the things you can do. This game is all about character development; not as easy to get into, but it leaves everything up to you and your initiative. I always think of this as Grand Theft Auto for RPG geeks. (Count me as one; I have a completely leveled up character in this game). Not that KOTOR is linear, but this game is totally free flowing; I forgot about the main quest line for months while I completed 3 different fraction quest lines. It is this freedom and sense of discovery that really drives this game. But I still have not discovered half of the map or a third of the game, and sooner or later you just have to say “ENOUGH”. Both are great pickups however and you will enjoy them greatly.

Ive got KOTOR, but never really gave it a chance.  I might have to dust it off and see if its any good now.  :)

Speaking from experience, taking a break from WoW is a good thing. I wish I could step away more often, lol!
