Ok I have an old movie on VHS - I want to transfer it to the computer so I can burn it before its no longer playable.

WHAT THE HECK DO I DO?  I'm not a complete computer idiot but the technology is a little ahead of me these days....and the husband is too busy to show me.

Is there a video card that I have to install?  What program do I need?

you can get a USB dazzle capture card that will let you hook external devices (like your VHS player or 360) to your PC via USB port and it comes with its own capture software. And you can import it to many different formats - Mpeg, mov, avi, wmv..... shoot me a PM if you have any questions.

Plextor has a similar device, I bought one for $10 after rebates, PXTV100 or something. You attach the RCA video and audio out/in connectors and USB the device to your computer. It only takes SD feeds, but that shouldn't be a problem with your VCR. It ships with editing software. Fairly painless.
