The Dreaded Words

So I am taking a shower this morning (before my clanmates even say it, yes I shower at least once a week) getting ready for another day of work before getting to the weekend.  My wife is getting ready to leave the bedroom when the dreaded words are said, "Do you want to paint the living room this weekend?"

Now luckily I am behind the clouded glass in the shower so she can not see the look on my face here.  It probably was a cross between a deer in the headlights and the ultimate look of disgust.  All of a sudden I went from looking forward to a weekend of relaxation to thinking of how to not say the wrong thing.  Damage mode is activated in my head as I careful choose my words.

How did I react you ask?  Currently, I am trying the Super Bowl angle!  "We want to have snacks ready for the game Sunday.  Are we going to be running around crazy if we try to fit that in along with the game?  How about we do it the following weekend?"  As of now this weekend is up in the air since she is thinking about it.

I don't mind painting, but I hate getting to Friday thinking my weekend is going to be one way and then all of a sudden is shifted in a total different direction.  Is there any helpful advice to help me get a week reprieve?

Ah, then go with the paint smell. Assuming the snacks are for a group that is coming over, the fumes will be there too. No one likes the fumes.

I have spent two weekends fixing up one of our bathrooms. I defiantely didn't have to paint as much as you will. But at least you didn't have to resurface all the walls.

Gently explain that it's kind of sudden, but you would enjoy looking at paint chips and planning the job with her. Or explain that you are old and set in your ways and the living room is going to stay avacado green because it is the color of comfort. :)

or she's smarter than you think, and knows you'll paint next weekend if she holds this weekend hostage. she could have set you up.

Grow a sac and TELL her how it's gonna be. Wait...what's that? OK...my girl says I shouldn't talk to you that way, so I'm sorry.

Plan a short trip to the hardware store, or even better, go there yourself, and pick up a whole bunch of paint samples. Give them to her and let her spend the weekend picking out the paint color. Now you may get asked, "How about this one" a whole bunch, but I believe it's a fair trade off to painting.

Unfortunately, the cans are already in my garage. Colors are chosen.
