I suck, plain and simple.  I always go into buying something with a plan of attack and generally know my limits and what I want.  As previously posted, I was on the prowl for an HD TV and was looking at going the LCD route.  Until last night.

The family and I went to Sams, the place I can never leave for less than $300.00, to get some groceries.  Walking by the TVs the wife says “ooohh look at that one” and it caught my eye.  A 42” Plasma staring right at me with the 360 dashboard up.  Man was it awesome, I looked at the LCDs they had and they were ok, but this one was just calling me.  Yeah I know, Plasma and burn in, Plasma and breaking, blah blah blah.  The proof was in the pudding and this thing was nothing short of gorgeous.  Not at a bad price either at $1300, well within my budget.  Has HDMI Inputs, many component inputs and a VGA input for a PC which is cool as well as a USB port.

So my quest for the LCD ended right there, I got the 42” Plasma and got it home and setup last night.  All I can say is wow with a capital holy shit.  I already called the cable folks to enable HD services on my DVR and the picture was just astounding.  Even the non-HD channels looked terrific.  I did not get it hooked up and running until about 9 or so last night, kids and dinner and all that came first.  Watched some TV with the Mrs. Then she shuffled off to bed.

I hooked up the 360, plugged in the new HD cable and I swear I was looking at something I had never seen before.  The picture on this thing with the 360 was absolutely amazing, I have never seen gaming like this.  I know this is old hat to some of you, but my old 60” rear projection TV was obviously not cutting it.  I felt like I was playing something I have never played before.  Many times I caught myself seeing things in games I have been playing for months that I never knew were there.  In short, I was up pretty damn late and may be coming down with something today and have to go home early *cough*.  I finally see what the hype is about, a 360 without HD is like a Ferrari in the slow lane.

Just wait till the burn-in and replacements costs kick off. It'll be like the ferrari with a bad transmission.

Congrats man. Sounds like a sweet setup. HD definately makes a difference. Are you going to mount it on the wall? What else do you have in your setup, surround sound???

Thanks man! I am not planning on wall mounting it, we are in an apartment right now (holding out for the right house) so they would not like it I am sure. I do have a 5.1 surround sound setup, nothing top of the line worth bragging about but it is there. I did not try that with it last night as everyone was asleep. Again, for the money and what I got, I think it is solid. I don't pay a lot of attention to the horror stories in some situations, it would be like me not buying a 360 because people say they overheat. Is it true? Sure, but not guaranteed to happen. I have a warranty for all of it, so I am not worried.

So, did you get a Vizio? I read that they get good reviews, but most of those donm't take into account any gaming so I always wondered about burn in. Manufacturers say it's not a problem, but people likle Doodi have had 2 or 3 replaced because of it, so who knows. It is a great price though if you don't have any problems.

just on a side note to your vga input thing the make converters for dvi to hdmi so you can actually use the better supply bandwith with the hdmi and dvi hook up.

Yep, I'm jealous. My TV is so blurry that I can't tell what my halo rank is in the pregame lobby most of the time.
