Random PSP News

I was excited for release 3.0 for my PSP to come out for PS1 emulation.  It would work similar to XBLA games where you pay, download and voila you have some old school games.  3.0 came out and while it is slick and has a couple of useful features that I like (FINALLY I can option it to not start a UMD automatically!) it is largely an update to allow integration with the PS3.  Since I will never likely get a PS3, that sort of sucks but hey we can download PS1 games now, right?  Wrong.  Well, not entirely wrong.  You CAN do this if you have the PS3 AND a PSP, but those of us with just a PSP are left sucking hind tit for the time being.  /obvious The PSP forums are buzzing about it /obvious and the latest from Sony is that we won’t see the ability to download PS1 emulation games directly to the PSP without a PS3 before late December and possibly into Q1 2007.

Release 3.01 also came out shortly after 3.0 was released and is said to be largely a security patch, something obviously was wrong with 3.0 and they realized it pretty fast.   There are a few games coming out I am interested in soon however as well as some peripherals (Camera and GPS attachments) so fear not PSP fans, hopefully some love for us is around the corner.
