More Social Security Benefits for Veterans?

I don’t normally look at emails that I get that are forwarded.  99.99% of the time they are some inspirational bullshit that I really don’t buy into or a joke/picture/video that I have seen already so they make it to the trash bin.  I got one yesterday (from my ex-wife no less who is also a Military vet) that mentioned some possible extra social security benefits for veterans that served on active duty any time from 1940 through 2001.  After looking into it, it looks like it may be legitimate.  Take this with a grain of salt because I am sure there are qualifications but for you vets out there…it is worth a read.  To paraphrase from the write up…

Interesting facts below about extra Social Security Benefits we will be
eligible for. Please click on the link below for access to additional
information.

Note that it is not just for retirees, but for anyone who has served.
Please share this with anyone who's had active duty service prior to
January 2002 and planning for retirement. In a nutshell it boils down
to this:

You qualify for a higher social security payment because of your
military service, for active duty any time from 1940 through 2001 (the
program was done away with in January 2002).

Up to $1200 per year of earnings credit (see below websites for more
detail) credited at time of application - which can make a substantial
difference in social security monthly payments upon your retirement.

You must bring your DD-214 to the Social Security Office - and you must
ask for this benefit to receive it!

Check it out, may be something small but anything helps right?  I know I am going to call the local SS office here today and see what I have to do.

Look at Mr. Informative. You are going to give the clan a bad name.

Thanks for the info rabb. I will have to make note of that for future use. Typical though, you have to ask for it to get it. God forbid they would be upfront with you about it.

Yeah Parker, that is very typical....imagine how much they save by not telling people.
