Shared on Mon, 04/16/2007 - 09:21This day has started out in an unusually poor manner.
Got up out of bed, went to the computer room to check on news, etc. Noticed a cool front had turned into a cold front and the outside temp was in the mid-50s. So I removed the screws holding a homemade hardboard 'ghetto' privacy/burglar/hurricane barrier from the window. I lost my grip on the thing and down it went between the desk and wall. Unfortunately that area is also occupied by an electrical outlet with heavy-duty cables and plugs connected.
The barrier knocked the top plug clean out of the outlet. The lower plug held ground and the outlet disintegrated. I quickly turned off everything connected to both outlets and, for safety, everything else in the room not deemed absolutely necessary. Went to pull the lower plug out of the outlet and was struck was the beauty of flying sparks and flaming plastic. Forgot the circuit breakers. Live and learn.
Here are some pictures...

I was able to replace the outlet and get all the wiring issues sorted out. Now it is time for watching and monitoring for other potential issues.
