TSO and RB

I think I blogged about this last year but I went to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra this weekend and I can safely say that:

(Christmas music + power chords) / (Blinding lights + fireworks + open flames) * hot violin playing chick = awesome

And I can't really put it much more plainly than that. One heck of a show. It's kind of a weird christmas tradition but I've been going for a few years now and really enjoy it. I took the girlfriend and still am not too sure how she felt--she said she liked it so I'll go with that but I think she was just being nice since I bought the ticket. It really can be a bit of an overwhelming experience, especially if you're expecting a traditional christmas show.

Also: I ended up finding Rock Band last night at Target. The game is fantastic. I tried out all four parts last night and as expected, my favorite was the drums. I was not excited about vocals but after trying it I found I really like it. One disappointing thing though: I was playing with MeefJ online and wailing away on the Foo Fighters' "Learn to Fly", I was throwing out characteristic Mike the Knife-isms like shoutouts to the band and comments on the crowd, and only afterward discovered that MeefJ could not hear me!!! Apparently when playing with other people the vocals get turned off. There is a 'push trigger button to speak' mechanic but who's going to hold trigger the whole time? I could see giving people the option to mute if they want but it seems really silly to do it this way. The purpose of playing with other people is fun and camraderie right? So why take one person out of the equation entirely? Not that anyone would really want to hear me sing, but it would make for a better gaming experience in my opinion. Here's hoping for a patch or something.

Sorry if anyone's disappointed by seeing NSFW on my avatar but no tits in this post. But as we all know when you post NSFW you are marked for a while. Good thing too because I don't want that douchebag losing his job at the daycare over my farking blog. He should be able to browse the game sites at work in peace for flip's sake.

Edit:  I guess I was wrong? I thought this would get the tag because my last post was NSFW but I guess I was wrong. I'll edit out the swear words.

At least waking up from a drunken night of RB and not knowing where your headset is will be easier to deal with....

Man, I didn't know it did that with the vocals. Some of the charm has been stripped away...

Sorry to double post, but this one's about TSO. Did you know that TSO is essentially an alter-ego for the heavy metal band Savatage? They were actually how I found out about TSO. They're coming to my town on Dec 12th - may try to go see them.

Yeah I had heard that, I figure they do Savatage the other 8 months of the year they aren't touring as TSO right? The guitarists are great, I need to look into their other stuff. Thanks for the tip!

I went to TSO last year with my family, I ejoyed it alot. The lead player was the producer for Savatage and several of the musicians were in the group itself. Alot of the music had chords "borrowed" from alot of Savatage CD's. Problem I have is that it is EXACTLY the same show every single year. That and they are always plugging their "new" CD, The Lost Christmas Eve, which has been new apparently for the last 4 years.

It is always the same but that's kind of what I like about it, since it's only once a year. Also this year they cut the intermission and didn't even mention Lost Christmas once. In fact there wasn't a lot of talking at all this time. It also seemed like the hobo guy's song was shorter, because that always seems agonizingly drawn out but wasn't this year.

I was looking at the tour dates, and it appears that they somehow play in two different cities at the same time on the same days. Kinda sucks to know that there are essentially two touring bands. How do you know if you get the good one or not?

I think they're east side and west side. Mine has been the same group every time I've seen them.

Sadly, the lead musician is a native to the Albany area her in NY, so he is always around here during the holidays.

Swear words in black and white do not constitute NSFW. your bosses would have to be up your ass and over your shoulder to bust you for that. rather, they'd just bust you for being here in the first place. Anyway, carry on. Who's the chick in your avatar? is it really a chick or a man, like Billy Elliot?
