Are there any bleeding-edge gadgeteers out there who have this new Kindle from amazon?

tinyurl.com/2krp38

It looks like the future is happening now. I love the look of it and have discussed this type of device many times with a friend here at work, mostly wondering why they hadn't invented it yet.  Of course I'll probably wait a couple generations before picking up something like this, but it looks awesome.

For anyone who doesn't want to visit the URL it's a little e-book thingy where you can download books. As of now you can get the books from Amazon for 10 bucks, and they are DRM'ed which of course sucks. But it's only the beginning, I think.  I just have way too many books on the shelf waiting to be read to be thinking about something like this right now, but may start looking when and if the price comes down to something reasonable. Any thoughts?

I'd have a hard time reading from a screen like that. I'll probably stick to regular books, which for me equals picture books.

That's what I thought too, that's what most people say but apparently they try this thing and the screen kicks ass. Just wondering if anyone had seen one in person.

I have looked into it. I like the idea of not having a ton of books take up space. I love to read but lose lots of space, to all the books I have.

That's my problem too. I have a spare bedroom upstairs with full bookshelves against the walls and numerous stacks of books on the floor. This would be great if the screen is readable, which it looks like it really really is. The daily newspaper option looks great too, no stacks of papers lying around.

DRM is always a bad thing. I usually take a book to the beach. I don't know if this thing could take the heat.

I've seen one of these in person, and I will admit that the screen does look really nice. I can get the allure of having something like this where you can just download a new book and keep them all self contained on one little device, but my crotchety old school ass still prefers a book with actual pages for long form reading.

It is a great idea, but too expensive. I also have doubts about book availability, particularly for someone that doesn't read mainstream books. Just like for movies, tv and music - too many publishers with their own [poor] ideas of DRM and profits over everything else. As for magazines & newspapers - sites have more current info, and the exclusive to paper articles will eventually be put on a site.

Price should be $150 at most. Until they can get it down no way will this product cross the chasm.
