Friday concert

Friday night I went to see Boston and Styx in concert. I took my girlfriend, who is from Mexico and doesn't know a damn thing about U.S. music because every single one of my deadbeat friends said the same thing: "I like those bands, but not enough to spend 80 bucks to see them". So me and the girlfriend sat twelfth row at what may not have been the 'best' concert I've ever seen, but was definitely the most fun.

Styx was great. The only Styx album I ever had was a greatest hits tape I played until it wore out, and I knew every song they played at the concert. There were no 'solo project' tunes or new album shit. It was all classic rock and it was awesome. I had no idea who was original and who was replacements and I didn't care. I actually felt like I had gotten my money's worth from Styx alone. The keyboard player plays behind his back while he faces the crowd, for god's sake! how is that not f-ing awesome?

When the curtain went up on Boston, I didn't know what to expect. I only knew two names, Scholz and Delp and while I was sure Delp wasn't going to be there, I had a few moments when I thought 'maybe I am thinking of the wrong guy' because this replacement singer they have sounds EXACTLY like him. I really like the fact that Boston has three guitar players, a bass player, a drummer AND a singer up there. It looks like a Brady Bunch concert. Or maybe Wu-Tang, because you know they have like 80 guys standing around at any given time. I was quite shocked to see that the bass player was a chick, and a hot one at that, because I was certain I'd never heard of a chick being in Boston. But she did a damn fine job. She even sang 'Hitch a Ride' and it was pretty good.

Boston had some newer tunes but they played most of the old classics. Being a Rock Band junkie, I stood up and nearly shit my pants with excitement when I heard the opening notes of 'Foreplay'. The show rocked and I screamed myself hoarse. I don't know what else to say other than, now that I've read up on what's been going on with both bands, I feel pretty lucky to have seen them both in concert and would easily recommend the show to anyone who has a chance to see it. Even if you're only a casual fan, who has been listening to the music since you were a kid but never really went for 'superfan' status, you'll get your money's worth.

I think the keyboard player is new, the original guy was a fuckin drama queen fairy! But he could sing like a mutha- he did "'Lady"', "Come sail away", and "Mr Roboto". Tommy Shaw the guitarist, sings the fun rockin songs like "Renegade", "Blue Collar Man", and "Too much time on my hands. James Young the other guitarist sings the heavier tunes, like "Miss America", "Snowblind", and "Heavy Metal Poisoning". The original drummer, quit when he came out of the closet, and has HIV, and his brother the bassist died of alcoholism in 95 I know too much random bullshit!!!!

You are thinking of Dennis DeYoung, and that guy is a annoying asshat. Kinda reminds of some people from on here.

Actually Rik I think it was the drummer who died and the bassist who has HIV--I only know it because they had him come out and play a couple songs on bass during the concert.
